Activity-Based Sanskrit Teaching
The Art and Skills of Teaching Sanskrit through Sanskrit
Develop practical skills to make Sanskrit classrooms interactive, communicative, activity-based and learner-centered.
Teacher's Handbooks
The course is based on two comprehensive handbooks developed for activity-based Sanskrit teaching.
Handbook for Teachers – Activity-Based Sanskrit Teaching, Part I
Handbook for Teachers – Activity-Based Sanskrit Teaching, Part II
Making Sanskrit Teaching Lively
Sanskrit is a living language and a Sanskrit class needs to be lively. Therefore, the objective of teaching Sanskrit should not be limited to teaching linguistic rules, explaining the meanings of words, or translating lessons.
Rather, it should aim at developing learners' ability to understand, speak, read, write and apply Sanskrit.
Keeping this objective in view, this special Handbook for Teachers is developed. The Activity Based Learning course is based on the concepts of Sanskrit teaching, teaching skills, activities, teaching approaches, and classroom practices presented in the two volumes.
Part I – Foundations & Teaching Skills
Covers fundamental concepts of Sanskrit teaching, language skills, receptive and productive skills, oral and written skills, reading and recitation, writing, communicative approach, teacher and learner roles, teaching skills, textbooks, assessment, error analysis and teaching-learning aids.
Part II – Practical Sanskrit Teaching
Focuses on Sanskrit lessons, lesson planning, alphabet teaching, sentence structure, prose, conversation, poetry, grammar, practice, conversational Sanskrit, co-curricular activities, activity-based teaching, assessment and creating a Sanskrit-rich environment.
Thus, the course seeks to enable teachers to move beyond just teaching to an experiential learning process, keeping the learner at the center.
